The Mayor and City Council of Georgetown is flexing its municipal muscles against a small organization which advocates for the rights of persons living with disabilities, says the Guyana Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities, (GCCD).The issue had its genesis in 1987 when the Government of the day encouraged the Guyana Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities, (GCCD) to participate in income generating activities for the benefit of its members. As part of this permit, the organization has been striving to create economic opportunities for its members.? In this regard, the GCCD embarked upon an ambitious project more than 20 years ago to set up a company that would be responsible for the creation and development of all income generating opportunities. The Diverse Industries of Citizens with Disabilities, (DICD), the company’s name,Cheap Jerseys USA, undertook as its first project,NFL Jerseys China, a hatchery scheme. The aim was to hatch chickens and distribute them to persons with disabilities across the country,Cheap Jerseys, the organization said. That activity, along with the others scheduled to come on stream, was being executed from DICD’s headquarters at 253 David Street,Cheap Soccer Jerseys, Kitty, Georgetown. The land on which the office and hatchery production factory were constructed was leased from the Mayor and City Council. The site previously housed an abattoir.“Regrettably, the lease was only for ten years and expired in 1997. Ever since then the DICD, with assistance from GCCD, has been seeking to have the lease renewed but without success.”The President of the organization, Julie Lewis, said that instead of the lease renewal, personnel from the City Council have been repeatedly threatening to repossess the land and seize the assets, including the building. As recent as yesterday,Cheap Jerseys From China, DICD’s Chairman, Julie Lewis, was informed that this threat would be carried out on Friday.“We are taking this threat very seriously and as such have decided to make known our position on the matter.”
